THE MANGO FESTIVAL 2007: 21 - 27 SEPTEMBER |

The
13th Bite the Mango festival will open with a preview of the film
Partition by director Vic Sarin. Set against the backdrop
of the political events in India following the Second World War, 'Partition'
is a love story that develops during the upheavals caused when India
is granted independence.

Adoor
Gopalakrishnan, 64, is one of the leading directors of New Indian
Cinema that emerged during the 1970s. He is one of Indias foremost
film-makers who has carried on the cinematic legacy of Satyajit Ray.
The first ever retrospective of his work in the U.K comes to Watermans
Arts Centre from Friday 16 - Sunday 18 June 2006.

END FILM FESTIVAL, 27 APR - 4 MAY 2006 |

this year's East End Film Festival, which runs from 27 April to 4
May 2006, Richard E. Grant is to introduce his directorial debut 'Wah-Wah',

from around the world. South Asian film screenings include 'Mixed

HUMAN
RIGHTS WATCH INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL |

15-25 March 2006, the Human Rights Watch International Film Festival
celebrates its 10th anniversary in London. This year the festival
continues its commitment to new features and showcases two of the
boldest dramas to have come out of India in 2005: Shonali Bose's 'Amu'
and Dreaming Lhasa'.

Tongues
on Fire, an annual film festival celebrating the achievements of Asian
women in cinema, presents its 8th film festival which opens with a
screening of Aparna Sen's acclaimed film, '15 Park Avenue' (featuring
Shabana Azmi and Konkona Sen Sharma). The Tongues on Fire festival
runs from 10 - 31 March.

success of the first ever Pakistani Film, Media and Arts Festival
held in Glasgow in September 2005, is to be showcased at the Edinburgh
Filmhouse from 24-26 February 2006. Ghulam Sarwar, master-painter
of trucks in Pakistan, will also be featured as part of the Edinburgh
showcase.

Split
Screen, Bristol's first Black & Asian Film Festival, from 13-16
October 2005 is a collaborative effort to give prominence to black
and Asian filmmaking in the South West. The festival will screen The
Rising, the latest film with Bollywood star Aamir Khan in the role
of the fearless leader of the Indian rebellion.

The
eleventh 'Bite The Mango' festival of world cinema will open on 23
September with the UK premiere of 'Black Friday' the controversial
drama which retells the story of the 1993 Mumbai bombings. The film,
which has been banned in India, will be introduced by writer/director
Anurag Kashyap.

first ever Pakistani Film, Media and Arts Festival, 'Pehlee Dharkan'
(literally meaning 'First Heartbeat' ) is coming to Scotland from
13-25 September 2005. Screenings will be held from 16-18 Sept at the
Glasgow Film Theatre.

August 1947 the British divided colonial India and created an Independent
India and Pakistan. The country's borders were re-defined along religious
and ethnic lines and a mass exodus ensued. The Festival of Parition
Films, which runs from 11-13 Feb highlights the impact of Partition
on ordinary people.

Now
in the 7th year, the Tongues on Fire Film Festival is launching its
annual short film competition to seek out new and undiscovered creative
filmmakers. In a joint initiative with B4U Network, the best films
will be shown at the 2005 Tongues on Fire Festival running from 4th
- 30th March 2005 at the ICA. The
competition is open to media students, school leavers and amateur
filmmakers. Closing date: 15 Feb 2005.

the Mango returns for its tenth anniversary from 24-30 September 2004.
Apart from a retrospective onBollywood legend Dilip Kumar, this year's

Hina Khan's documentary 'Jihad' and a host of new releases.

year's London Film Festival (October 22nd - November 6th) has a surprisingly
low-key presence of films from the Indian sub-continent. Despite the
fact that the British Film Institute honours Satyajit Ray with an
annual award in his name, this year's entries in the 'World Cinema'
category are sparse and only Hanif Kureishi's 'The Mother' will be
receiving a gala opening during the festival.

part of its celebration of Black History Month, The Riverside Studios
in London is running a Contemporary Indian Cinema season featuring
a range of films from British-Asian Director Gurinder Chadha's 'Bhaji
on the Beach', Deepa Mehta's 'Fire', director Asif Kapadia's 'The
Warrior' to classics like Satyajit Ray's 'Pather Panchali' and 'Mother
India'. The season runs from 3 September until 26th October 2003.

year's Bite The Mango film festival in Bradford kicks off with a special
preview of Bollywood Queen, with its fusion of East End London and
Bollywood song and dance. Retrospectives of influential Hindi filmmaker
V.Shantaram will include his classic titles'Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baje'
and 'Do Aankhen Barah Haath'. The festival runs from 20 - 26 June

sponsorship, PR and marketing consultant Ardi Kolah has been nominated
for two prestigious Hollis Sponsorship Awards 2003 for his work on
the British Independent Film Awards which were founded by Raindance
in 1998. The Raindance East film festival hits the streets of London's
East End from 21 - 27 March showcasing over 20 features and 40 shorts.
Indian Cinema screenings include Rahul Bose's 'Mr & Mrs Iyer'
and Asoka Handgama's 'Flying with One Wing'.

2003 Tongues on Fire Film Festival runs from 1 March to 17 April and
includes a special Shabana Azmi Retro season at NFT.
The festival pays tribute to one of the finest Urdu poets, Kaifi Azmi.
He was the lyricist for songs such as 'Waqt ne Kiya' for 'Kaagaz ke
Phool' and 'Chalte Chalte'.

Festival of South Asian Documentaries 2002 is a three day celebration

29th November to Sunday 1st December in Harrow, Middlesex.

SURI WINS ASIAN SHORT FILM COMPETITION |

27
year old Sandhya Suri has won the ImagineAsia Short Film Competition,
organised by the Nehru Centre as part of the British Film Institutes
year-long festival, with a short film entitled 'Safar' (The Journey).
The results were announced at a special ceremony held in London.
The competition was open to young Asians aged 15 30 years who
were asked to make a film about their experiences.
