Asian
Art in London
7th - 15th November 2002
Asian
Art in London has become a major landmark in the international art
calendar. Now in its fifth year, and in continuing association with
AXA Art Insurance, it returns, under the Chairmanship of Giuseppe
Eskenazi, between Thursday 7th - Friday 15th November, 2002. Asian
Art in London differs from the other great international Asian art
gatherings in that the event is centred in the galleries and show
rooms of the specialist dealers.

46 of the world's most experienced specialist dealers along side
experts from the capital's respected art institutions unite to present
the remarkable quality, variety and richness of Asian works of art
which confirm London as a major player in the field. The dealers
and auction houses hold their most important exhibitions and sales
of the year and this, combined with a programme of evening receptions,
pre-auction viewings, lectures, museum exhibitions and conferences,
attracts collectors and scholars from around the world to London.
It
is hoped that meeting the dealers in their own surroundings and
having access to objects in an atmosphere of privacy and peace,
away from the hustle and bustle of the international art fairs,
will help to encourage collectors and visitors to continue to keep
London as a regular port of call.
Visitors
are invited to familiarise themselves with the many opportunities
London offers in the field of Asian art, and to do so at their own
pace. The galleries provide an ideal forum and an opportunity for
buyers and dealers alike to build the kind of professional relationships
which have helped to create the world's most famous collections.
Asian
Art in London is not only an occasion for the cultural elite and
wealthy collectors. The event has enormous appeal for anyone keen
to learn about and enjoy the culture of the East and it is a treasure
trove for anyone who wishes to live amongst objects of beauty. There
will be furniture, decorative objects and works of art from China,
Japan and Korea, India and South East Asia which, together with
Himalayan, Tibetan and Islamic art, will span 7000 years up to the
present day. Objects on view and for sale will include ceramics,
jade, textiles, rugs and carpets, glass, sculpture, export porcelain,
paintings, lacquer-ware, netsuke, tomb pottery, jewellery, bronze
and stone sculpture, ivory, tiles and marble architectural ornaments,
jewel-encrusted daggers, cloisonné enamel, manuscripts and
books, miniatures paintings, snuff bottles, calligraphy, costumes,
Japanese screens, metalwork, inro, woodcarving and much more. Prices
range from a mere £10.00 for a small piece of 19th century
shipwrecked cargo (the perfect start for a collection of Asian art)
right up to the millions of pounds achieved by some of the rarest
and most sublime objects ever made.
