Asian Art in London is an annual treat not to be missed. This landmark
in the international art calendar returns this autumn from Thursday
6th November to Friday 14th November 2003. Around
fifty of the most experienced specialist dealers in the world team-up
with the major auction houses and experts from the capital's most
respected cultural institutions and for this prestigious ten-day event.

MODERN
INDIAN PAINTINGS, 14 - 22 MAY 2003 |

The
work of leading Twentieth Century Indian Artists Francis Newton
Souza, Maqbool Fida Husain, Syed Haider Raza, Tyeb Mehta, and Avinash
Chandra will be exhibited at the Grosvenor Gallery in London, from
the 14th to 22nd May 2003. The exhibition will focus on the early
period of these artists careers in the decades following Indias
independence.

CHILA
KUMARI BURMAN |
|
| |
Watermans
brings together a specially selected range of work by the artist,
Chila Kumari Burman. Chila was raised by her Punjabi parents who emigrated
to the Bootle district of Liverpool in the 1950s. She first emerged
onto the Black Arts scene in Britain in the mid-1980s. Her
work is often political and plays with multiple identities, teasing
the viewer with rhythmic repetitions or variations on a theme.

SERENDIPITY:
NEW ART FROM SRI LANKA, 20 MAR - 3 MAY. |

This
exhibition is London's first-ever survey of contemporary art from
Sri Lanka. 'Serendipity,'
a term coined by the British writer Horace Walpole describes the faculty
of making unexpected discoveries by pure accident. Given that contemporary
Sri Lankan art is currently so little known to western audiences,
it is intended that this new exhibition will become a source of new
insight into the art of the island.

ANISH
KAPOOR 'MARSYAS' - UNTIL 23 MAR 2003 |

Anish
Kapoor has undertaken the third in The Unilever Series of commissions
for the Turbine Hall at Tate Modern. Entitled 'Marsyas', the work
will be on display at The Tate Modern Gallery from 9th October 2002
until 23rd March 2003.

NEW
WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT IN RANGOLI ART |

As
part of the Launch of ArtSparks, Nottingham's Festival for Young People,
on Saturday 8th February there will be a world record attempt to create
the largest Rangoli pattern in the World - one that is approximately
forty metres by ten metres, covering an area of the Old Market Square.

Arts Centre) celebrates its re-opening with the launch of Bollywood
in Love, a poster exhibition from the British Film Institute's (bfi)
collections.
