Nottingham to attempt new world record for largest pattern achieved in Rangoli Art on Saturday 8th February 2003

World Record Attempt

The Largest Rangoli Pattern in the World.
Saturday 8th February 2003

Old Market Square, Nottingham.
** CALL FOR YOUNG VOLUNTEERS **

As part of the Launch of ArtSparks, Nottingham's Festival for Young People, on Saturday 8th February there will be a world record attempt to create the Largest Rangoli Pattern in the World.

The record attempt is a partnership between Nottingham City Council's ArtSparks and Nottingham Asian Arts Council who will be helping to organise the event.

Throughout the day young people of all ages from across the city will be invited to come along and help to break the current world record of 84 square metres. ArtSparks is hoping to create a Rangoli pattern that is approximately forty metres by ten metres, covering an area of the Old Market Square.

For more information or to get involved in the record attempt , please contact Lucia Hogg, ArtSparks Coordinator, on 0115 915 3591 or Bhavesh Jani, Asian Arts Officer, on 0115 915 3509.

Fro more information about ArtSparks or to order a brochure call 0115 915 3555 or go to www.artsparks.info

WHAT'S NEEDED?

  • Person/people to design the pattern.
  • Volunteers are needed to help organise the event and get young people from around the city to help contribute to the pattern.
  • Glue and grains/pulses are needed (for free if possible!)
  • Tarpaulins/boards would be joined together to create the size needed.
  • The allocated space, the upper display area of the Square by Debenhams, will be cordoned off for the event. Access to the rangoli pattern will be through the central area of the square. Young people will queue and then be allocated an area to help work on the pattern. Children may need to be accompanied by an adult, depending on the level of volunteer support.
