MADHU’S VOTED BEST AT GOOD CURRY GUIDE AWARDS 2004

Sanjay Anand of Madhu'sLeading Indian restaurant, Madhu’s scooped the highest honours in the ‘Best UK Restaurant’ category at the 2004 Good Curry Guide Awards, at London’s Hilton Hotel on Park Lane, Monday 17th May, 2004. Madhu’s, also renowned as the top Asian Outside Caterer in the UK, is recognised for its Punjabi cuisine with a wonderful Kenyan Asian twist. The 2004 Cobra Good Curry Guide Awards honour the contribution and extraordinary achievements of restaurateurs in Britain.

Pat Chapman’s Good Curry Guide, now in its 8th edition, features over 1000 of the finest Indian restaurants, hand picked from the 9,000 restaurants that now exist in the UK. Pat said, ‘‘It’s a great pleasure to recognise the elite Indian restaurants that have consistently received positive reports in the Good Curry Guide.’’ Indian restaurants have made a considerable impact on economic, social and cultural development. Indian is the UK’s favourite cuisine, as nearly two-thirds of the nations diners prefer to eat curry and 3.5 million curries are served to consumers each week.*

  • Best In Scotland - Dil Se, Dundee
    (Abdour Rouf’s New Balaka restaurant won Best in Scotland 1995-6 and Best Bangladeshi 1999-2000)
  • Best In Wales - Bengal Dynasty, Deeside
    (Won award for the fourth time)
  • Best Pakistani Restaurant -Tabaq, London SW12
    (1998-99, 1999-2000, 2001-3 & 2004-5)
  • Best Bangladeshi Restaurant - Ginger, London W2
  • Best Sri Lankan Restaurant - Jeffna House, London SW17
  • Best Nepalese Restaurant - Gurkha Kitchen Oxted, Surrey
    (1999-2000 & 2004-5)
  • Best Punjabi Restaurant - Brilliant Restaurant, Southall
  • Most Caring Curryhouse - Madhuban Liss, Hampshire
  • Best New Concept - Masala Zone, London W1
  • Best Group Of Restaurants - Coconut Lagoon, Georgetown & Raffles
  • Best Chef - (Yogesh Datta) Painted Heron, London SW10
  • Best Outside London - Jaipur, Milton Keynes
    (5th time Jaipur has won award since 1995)
  • Lifetime Achievement Award - Bombay Brasserie ( 21yrs), London SW7. (Best in UK 1995-97 / Lifetime Best Restaurant Award – 1982 to 2004-5)
