CYRUS TODIWALA MBE WINS OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION
AT LONDON RESTAURANT AWARDS 2004
(8 March 2004)

Cyrus TodiwalaCyrus Todiwala MBE, executive chef and proprietor of the Café Spice Namasté Restaurant Group, was last night honoured with the prestigious ‘Outstanding Contribution’ award for his extensive services to the London Restaurant Industry. Since his arrival in the UK thirteen years ago, Todiwala has been dedicated to educating people on authentic Indian cuisine, determined to dispel the ‘cheap and cheerful’ stigma attached to this particular gastronomy.

“It is always an honour to be recognised and appreciated for the hard work you do, particularly within your own industry. But this award does not mean I have finished with the hard work – far from it! The state of training in the UK still has a long way to go”

Cyrus Todiwala MBE

Cyrus considers training to be ‘almost a religion’ and has been consistently involved with initiatives both within his own restaurants but also in the wider restaurant community, particularly for ethnic minority groups. Todiwala’s list of achievements is endless - he has worked within the Education Hospitality Partnership, was a member of NACETT (National Advisory Council for Education and Training Targets), was the vice chairman of the London East Hospitality Partnership and of course founded the Asian and Oriental School of Catering in Hoxton, London.

He was awarded an MBE in 2000 for his services to the restaurant industry. He is proprietor of both Café Spice Namasté and The Parsee in London.
