VOTED BIBA RESTAURANT OF THE YEAR 2005 |
This
year's Tio Pepe ITV London Restaurant Awards evening was full of Eastern
promise, as the Capital's Asian restaurants proved the hottest contenders.
Rasoi Vineet Bhatia was voted Indian Restaurant of the Year, but Amaya
- the new venture by sisters Camellia and Namita Panjabi picked up
two awards - New Restaurant of The Year & London Restaurant of
the Year 2005.

INDIAN CHEF OF THE YEAR 2005 |
Wasim
Aslam of the Yorkshire's 'Aagrah' restaurant group walked off with
the 'International Indian Chef of the Year 2005' title after a closely
fought battle with seven other expert cooks in Edinburgh last Friday.
The unique contest, founded in 1991 to promote innovation and quality
in Indian cuisine, attracts worldwide entries from thousands of cooks,
amateur and professional.

RESTAURANT AWARDS 2005 |
The
Tatler Restaurant Awards 2005 took place on Monday 10th January. Among
those picking up awards were Vineet Bhatia for his new venture 'Rasoi'
and Namita & Camellia Panjabi and Ranjit Mathrani for their restaurants
'Amaya', 'Chutney Mary', 'Veeraswamy' and 'Masala Zone'. Tatler's
fourth annual Awards celebrated the launch of the Tatler Restaurant
Guide 2005.

INDIAN CHEF OF 2005 SHORTLIST |
The
International Indian Chef of the Year 2005 competition, founded by
Edinburgh entrepeneur Tommy Miah to promote innovation and quality
in Indian cuisine, was a success from its launch. Finalists for this
year's contest were announced by Alex Salmond M.P. at a reception
at the House of Commons in London.

SPICE NAMASTE LAUNCHES NEW GINGER GARDEN |
Renowned
Chef Cyrus Todiwala proved that "the show really must go on"
in the Curry Restuarant Trade, by checking himself out of the Royal
London Hospital to attend the opening of his new Ginger Garden at
Cafe Spice Namasté last night. Sporting a rather fetching hospital
name band, he made sure that guests had every opportunity to tuck
into his 'al fresco' Indian delicacies!

TOPS 'BEST IN BRITAIN AWARDS' 2004 |
The
twelfth annual Best In Britain Awards (BIBA's), organised by The Real
Curry Restaurant Guide, were held at The Bonnington Hotel in London
on 7 June 2004 and attended by top restaurateurs from all over the
country. Mohammed Rafiqe's Kiplings restaurant in Bradford won two
of the coveted individual awards this year.

IS CURRY CAPITAL OF BRITAIN 2004 |
Bradford
has been awarded the title 'Curry Capital of Britain 2004'. For the
three previous years the curry houses and the people of Bradford have
had to accept second place in the nationwide Curry Capital of Britain
competition, beaten first by London West and then by Glasgow for two
years in succession. This time Bradford Council declared itself "to
be delighted to support the district's bid.

Leading
Indian restaurant, Madhus scooped the highest honours in the
Best UK Restaurant category at the 2004 Good Curry Guide
Awards, at Londons Hilton Hotel on Park Lane, Monday 17th May,
2004. Madhus, also renowned as the top Asian Outside Caterer
in the UK, is recognised for its Punjabi cuisine with a Kenyan Asian
twist.

LONDON RESTAURANT AWARDS 2004 |
The
Painted Heron is celebrating after winning the Indian Restaurant category
at this year's Tio Pepe ITV London Restaurant Awards. It fought off
competition from Chowki, New Tayyab, Zaika and Chutney Mary. Despite
narrowly missing out in the same category, Chowki's popularity was
confirmed as it won the Evening Standard London Tonight Award as voted
for by readers and viewers.

TODIWALA WINS OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION AWARD |
Cyrus
Todiwala MBE, executive chef and proprietor of the Café Spice
Namasté Restaurant Group, was last night honoured with the
prestigious Outstanding Contribution award for his extensive
services to the London Restaurant Industry. Since
his arrival in the UK thirteen years ago, Todiwala has been dedicated
to educating people on authentic Indian cuisine, determined to dispel
curry's cheap and cheerful stigma.

AWARD FOR RESTAURATEUR |
Tommy
Miah of the Raj Restaurant in Edinburgh is the first Indian restaurateur
to be honoured by Britain's Seafish Authority with its "Pride
in Seafood" award. Iain MacSween, chief executive of the Scottish
Fishermen's Organisation, presented the prestigious award that
recognises Tommy's pioneering work in promoting Haddock.

Delhi chef, Kapil Kaushik, who works in the city's upmarket Oloroso
restaurant, beat off a challenge from six other top quality chefs

contest International Indian Chef of the Year - to win the coveted
title and £1,000 prize. "This
is such an achievement for me," Kaushik . "It is a new beginning."
