IN TRAFALGAR SQUARE, 28 OCTOBER 2007 |
|
| |
Thousands
of Londoners will head to Trafalgar Square on Sunday 28 October for
this year's celebrations to mark Diwali the 'festival of lights'.
Organised by the Mayor of London and the Diwali in London Committee,
the free event is open to all and will see the square transformed
by magical light displays, floating lanterns, and music and dance
performances.

Zee
Television brings you the best of Bollywood at the Zee Carnival 2006
from 10-12 March at London's Olympia with a guest appearance by Rani

STUNNING
JAIN FESTIVAL SET FOR FEBRUARY 2006 |
|

From
22 January to 19 February 2006, a unique festival will take place
in Shravanabelagola, Karnataka in South India. 2 million people will
gather around the 56ft statue of Jain Idol, Bahubali, to witness and
be part of a spiritual event that takes place every 12 years. Coloured
powders, water and milk and poured over the statue as part of the
worship of Bahubali's image. Music and prayers continue through the
month.

JANMASHTAMI
FESTIVAL, 26-28 AUGUST 2005 |
|
| |
On Friday 26th & Sunday 28th August, Bhaktivedanta Manor Hare
Krishna temple near Watford will be host the annual Janmashtami festival
to receive over 75,000 visitors and pilgrims. It is the largest Hindu
gathering that takes place outside India.

14 August. The London Mela 2005 last year attracted 75,000 people.

SQUARE FESTIVAL, 4-29 AUGUST 2005 |

The
first Trafalgar Square Festival, a three-week season of free live
performance supported by the Mayor of London, which kicks off on Thursday
4 August, includes a new commission from Akademi, as well as other
Asian performers. The Trafalgar Square Festival runs until 29 August
2005.

YATRA FESTIVAL LIFTS LONDONER'S SPIRITS |

Over
25,000 people participated in the 37th London Ratha-yatra Carnival
of Chariots on Sunday 17th July 2005. The annual Hare Krishna festival
was a colourful display of London's multicultural and multi-faith
community. Three 40-foot high colourful chariots carrying the deities
of Lord Jagannatha, Lady Subhadra and Lord Balarama were pulled to
Trafalgar Square.

first Black astronaut to walk in space, Dr Bernard Harris, is to visit
the National Space Centre as part of the Festival of Science and Culture
which will take place from the 9th - 13th March at the National Space
Centre, Leicester. The festival will celebrate the 10th anniversary
of his groundbreaking walk, with Dr Harris giving talks and workshops
for the general public.

Street, Upton Park, was once again aglow with hundreds of candle-lit
lanterns as Newham Council staged the 12th annual Runga Rung: 'Lighting
the Way' procession on Friday (19 November). Accompanied by the Dhol
Academy and Bollywood Brass Band, the procession was led off by Councillor
Andrew Baikie, Deputy Mayor & Councillors Harvinder Singh Virdee
(Green Street West) & Sukhdev Singh Marway.

statistics show that on average at least one person dies each year
during the Diwali period as a result of careless use of candles. A
major feature of the festival is the use of candles, tealights and
fireworks. To highlight the increased fire risk Fire Safety Minister
Phil Hope today joined worshippers at the Gurdwara in Southall, London.

Home Secretary David Blunkett lit the Diwali lamp at the House of
Commons on 10th November to thunderous applause at a reception co-hosted
by the Hindu Forum of Britain, the largest umbrella body for British
Hindus. The audience of more than 400 people included MPs, Peers and
community leaders of different faith communities.

LONDONERS ENJOY DIWALI IN TRAFALGAR SQUARE |

weekends annual Diwali on the Square event (Sunday 7 November
2004), was a lively, successful event attended by 20,000 visitors.
Supported by the Mayor of London, the free celebration included light
displays, free blessed Asian food, cultural dance and music performances,
Sunrise DJ's, Zee TV presenters and a special screening of Mystic
India.

of Londoners gathered in Gunnersby Park, Ealing on Sunday 15 August
to celebrate the London Mela. The event attracted crowds of approx
80,000 throughout the day and had something for everyone, from pop
stars Raghav and Stereo Nation, classical musical sets, cabaret acts,
food and cultural stalls, martial arts & street theatre.
