99 mins / India / 2006 / 35mm/ Certificate 15
Directed by: Rajat Kapoor
Produced by: Sunil Doshi
Cast: Ranvir Shorey, Konkona Sen Sharma, Rajat Kapoor
From
director Rajut Kapoor, perhaps better known as an actor from
his appearances in films such as Monsoon Wedding, comes a
modern comedy of manners focusing on a middle-class couple
living in Mumbai. Sunil and Malti are in their thirties, have
good jobs and a young son, but their lives have fallen into
a rut and Sunil thinks a possible solution might be to enter
the world of swinging….
An
intelligent look at modern Indian society and its contradictions,
brought to life by subtle performances and a comic touch,
this is a refreshing piece of new popular Indian cinema, providing
an entertaining view of modern relationships.

official entry for this years Academy Awards explores
the tumultuous history of the country and its fight for independence.
Based on his own novel, Humayun Ahmeds film is set in
1971 and follows the flight of a desperate and disparate group
of passengers as they attempt to escape the increasingly bloody
war, aboard a rickety old steamer. Despite the terror, they
still hold their dreams of Shyamol Chhaya -- the land of peace.
Few Bangladeshi films are screened in the UK and this is one
of the best since the success of Tareque Masuds The
Clay Bird.
