With
a jaw-dropping line up of spectacular live acts and world famous
DJs it can only be one thing. Get ready to rumble as Shaanti's May's
line up is confirmed. One of the UK's most innovative and exciting
club nights gears up to host another monster party this bank holiday
as Indian drum'n'bass, electronica trailblazer and Mercury Music
Prize Award winning Talvin Singh has confirmed an exclusive date
at Shaanti on Friday 28 May 2004.
Armed
with electrified tabla drums, impressive credentials in Indian classical
music and mastery of electronica samplers and sequencers, Shaanti
presents Talvin Singh. This will be Talvin's first appearance in
the Midlands for 8 years and exclusively for Shaanti he'll be presenting
TabTek - a spectacular audio and visual set that incorporates live
tabla & digital electronica beats. Singh will also be sharing
the spotlight alongside a diverse mix of names from the Brit-Asian
music scene.
Alongside
Talvin Singh, Scotland's premier producers Tigerstyle will be also
headlining the night. This UK beats formation has earned much respect
and musically their sound is reminiscent of hardcore trip-hop and
two-step garage with their unique brand of scanty rhythms and desi
sounds. Fresh from their tour in the States, Tigerstyle will perform
their only exclusive Birmingham date at Shaanti.
If
that wasn't enough other names confirmed so far include Taz from
Stereo Nation who'll be performing live alongside resident DJ's
Sonny Ji, Micky Evans, Donavan Love Parm Panesar, Shaolin and Manga
from Galaxy - Number One for Dance and RnB, plus more guests to
be announced throughout the month.
Manga,
Founder of Shaanti says, "We're relentless in our pursuit to
present the finest quality of talent. We're increasing the line
up this year introducing an eclectic mix of sounds as well as the
baddest names from the universal underground scene. With the huge
success of our 5th birthday party in February, we're positive that
Shaanti will be the most 'rocking night' to be hosted this bank-holiday."
With
a super-whopping combo of live music and DJ's who'll be bringing
an ass kicking mishmash of Eastern Grooves, Desi Beats, Drum and
Bass, Electronica and dance music, punters will be spoilt for choice
by over 13 mind-blowing artists and DJs plus a exclusive digital
film festival this bank holiday.
TALVIN
SINGH
Talvin
Singh has used his classical tabla and percussion training along
with his infatuation with electronic music to develop a fresh hybrid
of Indian and drum 'n' bass. Singh was constructing tabla arrangements
for the likes of Björk, Massive Attack, and the Future Sound
of London. In 1995, Singh founded the Anokha club where artists
of the rising Asian dance movement would intertwine and battle with
Singh's rhythms. In 1996 he released a compilation of the collective
work of the Anokha artists entitled Talvin Singh Presents Anokha:
Soundz of the Asian Underground, and Singh's debut record OK, is
his first solo fusion of Eastern and Western sounds.
TIGERSTYLE
Tigerstyle
are one of a handful of the old desi guards who are pushing forward
a fresher and original sound. On the current scene of Desi and hip-hop
music, Tigerstyle made up of brothers Raj and Pops are the reigning
kings of production. This UK beats formation has earned much respect
and musically their sound is reminiscent of hardcore trip-hop and
two-step garage with their unique brand of scanty rhythms and desi
sounds. Musically as well as image-wise, Tigerstyle don't fit the
mould of the average desi producers or artists.
TAZ
FROM STEREO NATION
Tarsame
Singh aka Taz, the artist formerly known as Johnny Zee, a British
born Asian raised in Coventry UK established himself as a recording
artist in 1989. With the release of his debut album 'Hit the Deck'
he stormed the UK Asian pop charts for thirty-six weeks at No.1.
The album went on to become one of the biggest selling Asian fusion
releases to date. His music is best described as a hybrid of traditional
Asian infused with western pop sensibility, infectious melodies
and dynamic dance grooves.
