FAB! - FAME ACADEMY BOLLYWOOD STYLE
(23 February 2004)

Shin Parwana of Bhangra group DCS will provide professioal coaching to FAB! participants.FAB! - Fame Academy Bollywood is a singing, song writing and performance project launched by Sampad. From Bollywood to Bhangra to the funkiest Asian club nights around, Birmingham has taken centre stage as the platform for up and coming South Asian talent and sampad is taking a lead in building on this vibrant scene, by running FAB! to find the next generation of Bollywood-style singers. The FAB! Showcase takes place on Tuesday 27th April at the MAC in Birmingham.

The FAB! project will involve young people aged 14 - 18 years, with a particular emphasis on encouraging young South Asian men to take part. Participants have been drawn from King Edward VI Handsworth School, King Edward VI Aston School and Washwood Heath Technology College.

Professional coaching will be provided by the FAB! artistic team during the workshops with a panel consisting of Shin Parwana from the renowned Bhangra group DCS, Pawanjit Ubhi and Ramesh Jilka. Participants will work in Bollywood, Bhangra and South Asian popular music styles with the chance to sing live on stage and produce their own CD in a professional recording studio.

Shin Parwana from DCS said,"This is a great opportunity for students to develop their musical skills and perform their favourite Bollywood numbers live on stage. I'm really delighted to be involved in this project and know that the performance will be an entertaining and fun experience for all those involved."

Sampad, which is interpreted to mean cultural wealth, was set up in 1990 to promote and develop the South Asian arts, mainly dance, music, theatre, crafts and literature.
