HEATS UP FOR AWA AWARDS 2003

Competition
for the 4th Asian Women of Achievement Awards heats up as leading
Asian women like director Gurinder Chadha ('Bend it Like Beckham'),
playwright Tanika Gupta and dance tutor Honey Kalaria "slug
it out" with a range of female talent from the commercial,
professional, artistic and humanitarian sectors. "Asian women
in Britain are making profound and lasting contributions to our
society", said Cherie Booth QC, Patron of the Awards.
"Their
achievements should be recognised and rewarded. These Awards play
a vital part in doing just that" she added. The winners will
be announced at a glittering awards ceremony on May
8th 2003 in London. This
year 37 finalists have been selected across seven different Award
categories:

For
women flourishing in the world of performing arts, management of
the arts and creative writing.

THE ASIAN WOMEN OF ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS
Now
in their fourth year, the Awards founded in 1999 were set up by
Pinky Lilani and Munir Samji to recognise all levels of achievement
made by Asian women in the UK. They acknowledge and celebrate the
individual efforts of Asian women from all over the country and
from all walks of life - reflecting the wealth of talent amongst
women in the Asian community, most of which goes unrecognised and
is not in the public arena.

The
judging of the Asian Women of Achievement Awards took place on 24th
March 2003. The judging panel, headed up by Chairman Baroness Helena

Winners
of the Asian Women of Achievement Awards are revealed at a star-studded
Awards ceremony that has historically attracted many well-known,
high profile guests including Clive Anderson, Imran and Jemima Khan,
Lisa Aziz, Lord and Lady Paul, Lord and Lady Lloyd Webber, Martin
Bashir, Meera Syal MBE and Shakira Caine. This year's presentation
ceremony will take place on Thursday 8th
May 2003 at the London Hilton on Park Lane and will be
hosted by comedienne and actress Nina Wadia.
