June Sarpong was at London's Respect Festival this weekend (19 July 2003) to unveil CARLTON'S MULTICULTURAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS for 2003. The T4 presenter will once again host the star-studded annual event, to be held on 21 October 2003. Now in their third year, the awards were established by Carlton to celebrate diversity and honour the creative, commercial, cultural, political and educational contributions of young people from the UK's diverse ethnic communities. Previous winners include singer Ms Dynamite, actor Adrian Lester, athlete Ashia Hansen, businessman Sir Gulam Noon, former CRE chair Lord Herman Ouseley and Asif Kapadia, Director of 'The Warrior'.

As a founder member of the Cultural Diversity Network for Broadcasters (CDN), Carlton remains committed to reflecting the diversity of its regions, both on and off screen. The broadcaster continues actively to recruit black and Asian journalists for its award-winning TV training scheme, ensuring that its flagship regional news LONDON TONIGHT positively reflects the enormous diversity of the capital.

As sponsors of the Respect Festival and Respect Week, Carlton's support included a week of specially produced short programmes in its CITY SURVIVAL GUIDE strand, as well as coverage within its programme LONDON TONIGHT.
