SUNRISE SHINES AT NTL COMMERCIAL RADIO AWARDS 2004
(29 June 2004)

Tony Lit and Kay McCarthySunrise Radio, the UK’s first independent 24 hour Asian commercial radio station, was presented with the highly respected award of Marketing Excellence at the recent NTL Commercial Radio Awards 2004. The competition was fierce with over 340 entries for 19 categories. Short listed along side the Capital Radio Group’s, Century FM and the Local Radio Company’s, Wessex FM it was Sunrise Radio’s time to shine as it picked up the award for its Walkers Crisps Campaign – the launching of a new range of flavours, ‘Great British Takeaways’ into the Independent Retail Trade.

Under the guidance and vision of media magnate and managing director Tony Lit, assisted by Kay McCarthy, sales and marketing director, Sunrise Radio has grown from strength to strength. Whilst most stations have suffered from the effects of the advertising recession, Sunrise Radio has managed to nearly double its turnover. Over the course of the last year Sunrise Radio’s weekly audience has grown to 569,000 in the UK, with the highest average weekly listening hours (14.4 weekly) of any London radio station (Rajar Q1 2004).

Tony Lit puts his growth in audience and listening hours down to the company’s second to none, “Understanding of the market. We know exactly what the Asian Community wants and we have total respect for our listeners.”
