Around 600,000 villagers on the border between West Bengal and Jharkhand have been hit by massive flooding. Continuous rainfall since the beginning of September has led to rapid rise in river levels which is now forcing villagers out of their homes and into temporary accommodation.

Chancellor Gordon Brown will clearly rely on his 'Labour Friends of India' in his bid to become the next Leader of the Labour party. On 26th September, he met with senior policy makers, Indian "captains of industry" and leaders in civic society at a reception organised by Labour Friends of India, during the annual Labour Party Conference in Manchester.

NORTH LONDON MOSQUE ATTACKED AFTER POPE'S SPEECH

The North London Mosque witnessed an attack at 1am on Tuesday 19 September 2006 as two unknown men entered the premises breaking two windows in the process and tried to set a fire. Police were contacted immediately after the two men were spotted, but they failed to act on time. The mosque, formerly known as Finsbury Park Mosque, previously hosted Abu Hamza as its Imam.

Malegaon bomb blasts kill many Musilm worshippers

A series of bomb blasts in the town of Malegaon in Maharashtra, India, killed 32 people and wounded dozens yesterday. The town of about 700,000 people was hit by near-simultaneous blasts during the Friday Islamic prayers when thousands has gathered to pray for their dead on Shab-e-Barat.

CRITICS ANGRY AT TREVOR PHILLIPS APPOINTMENT AT CEHR

Ruth Kelly, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, today announced the appointment of Trevor Phillips as the Chair of the new Commission for Equality and Human Rights (CEHR). His appointment was immediately criticised by representatives of ethnic minority groups.

BBC SURVEY SHOWS ONE IN 10 BACKS 'HONOUR KILLINGS'

BBC survey shows one in ten backs 'honour killings' which are often linked with forced marriages, kidnaps, beatings and rape.

One in 10 young British Asians believes 'honour killings' can be justified, according to a poll for the BBC's Asian Network. Of 500 Hindus, Sikhs, Christians and Muslims questioned, a tenth said they would condone the murder of someone who disrespected their family's honour. Konnie Huq investigates the issue in a new documentary, 'Love, Honour & Obey'.
