EDITORIAL COMMENT

The death knell has sounded for Asian Immigration into the UK. While I have little sympathy for the "rich tax" - the £30,000 levy to be imposed on non-domiciled NRIs living here - I have a great deal of sympathy for doctors, highly skilled migrants and of course, the hardworking chefs and crew of the good ship 'Britannia'. They have worked tirelessly, often for lower pay and for longer hours, to build the NHS, construct business Britain and define the nation's tastebuds for the exotic.

And what do they get in return? Platitudes, meaningless consultation exercises and a lot of pointless political hot air about the new immigration regimen which imposes draconian changes in status, higher fees and restricts access to training and opportunities particularly for Asian immigrants.

Still there is a 'silver lining' to this particular cloud over Britain's history - India's economy is booming and it radiates a far greater eastern promise than it ever has before. Time to dust off those 'grandfather' rights to live there perhaps?

Until next time,
Lopa Patel (Editor - Redhotcurry.com)
