Foeticide: Indian women cry just to be born
As the world gets ready to celebrate International
Women's Day Saturday, tens of thousands of
Indian women are struggling just to be born.
Experts say around one million female foetuses
are being aborted in India every year. According
to the 2001 census, India's sex ratio is 927
women for 1,000 men. The situation is worse
in states like Punjab.

Sikhs
lose challenge to helmet rule in Canada
A
city court has ruled that Sikhs in Ontario province cannot
drive motorcycles without helmets. Ontario Court Judge
James Blacklock dismissed a challenge to the Ontario Highway
Traffic Act by a local Sikh Baljinder Singh Badesha who
was fined $110 in September 2005 for driving his motorcycle
without a helmet.

develops bio-sensor to track food toxins
An
Indian-American has developed a revolutionary new bio-sensor
capable of simultaneously screening thousands of food
samples for deadly pathogens. The technique helps neutralise
potential threats and improve food-processing techniques,
said Arun Bhunia, a professor of food science at Purdue
University.

First Bollywood Acting School Launched
The UK's first Bollywood acting school was launched today
(6 March 2008) in Ealing, West London to teach talented
individuals who wish to pursue careers as actors in the
fast growing Indian cinema industry, Bollywood. The UK
School will be the first overseas chapter of 'Actor Prepares'
to open outside of India.
