Last
week I attended the UK Asian Music Awards 2008.
Amidst the chaos of a late-running programme,
wooden presenters, no-shows like Jags Klimax and
Adnan Sami (no visa probably) and z-listers giving
out the gongs....rose Heera, one of the original
bhangra bands, who won the lifetime achievement
award. More comfortable in Punjabi then English,
they brought the house down with an an off-the-cuff
song in their thank you speech....old style!
Even
though the
UK AMAs are now legendary for their foul-ups (its
part of their charm!), it was a great evening
celebrating the very real talent that exists within
the burgeoning Asian underground scene. So well
done to founder Abs Shaid for keeping the awards
going.
This
week, I've been to see 'A Prefect Ganesh' a new
play based on the 1993 novel by Pulitzer prize
nominee, Terence McNally. For all you theatre
buffs whose palette has been jaded with the masala
mix of Asian Theatre - try and catch 'A Perfect
Ganesh'.....the acting is outstanding.
Until
next time,
Lopa Patel (Editor - Redhotcurry.com)
