Is it just me, or was the publication of The Sunday Times Rich List a bit of a damp squib last week? I rushed out at midday expecting to see empty racks at the newsagents...when lo & behold, there were stacks of it lying around. Of course, others might be more interested in the list of "hotties" up for the Asian Women of Achievement Awards later this month!

The shortlist has been announced for the Asian Women of Achievement Awards 2008. Asian women in line for the coveted awards range from entrepreneur Hasfa Abubacker, who has generated a turnover of £8.5m in just four years for Pitchwell, a company she started in the spare room of her flat, through to journalist Navdip Dhariwal, and Kiss Radio's DJ Neev (pictured). read more read more

The UKs first volunteering scheme to target the Indian diaspora was launched today in North West London with the support of cricketing hero Monty Panesar. Sewa Volunteers is a flagship initiative of British charity - Sewa International, that seeks to make it easier for volunteers to find local groups that can make good use of their time, skills, and experiences. read more read more

Nazia Hassan Foundation Birthday Celebration 2008
The Nazia Hassan Foundation, set up in memory of the famous songstress, organised a seminar to celebrate her birthday on Thursday 24th April 2008. The event was hosted by Lord Ahmed of Rotherham at the House of Lords - Lord Herman Ouseley gave the keynote address followed by a poem by Reginald Massey in honour of Nazia. The Prime Minister, Gordon Brown presented Lord Neil Kinnock with the Fenner Brockway Medal for the services of the British Council in India at the Labour Friends of India ‘Annual Luncheon’, on Tuesday 22 April 2008 in London. The Ramayana: Love and Valour in India's Great Epic: 16 May - 14 September 2008
For the first time over 120 paintings from the British Library's lavishly illustrated 17th century manuscripts of the Ramayana story from the volumes of Rana Jagat Singh of Mewar (1628-1652) will go on public display in 'The Ramayana: Love and Valour in India's Great Epic', 16 May - 14 September 2008.
