Editorial: India let down by dowdy "First Wives"
Gordon Brown meets Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, President of Argentina at Number 10 Downing Street during the London Summit. Crown copyright
Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner's manicure

As the G20 leaders start the real discussions at the London Summit today, it is apparent that the rest of us, fed up with protesters and traffic chaos in the Capital, have long since become obsessed with the "First Wives" (WAGs of the leaders).

And I must admit to a little disappointment that India is let down by such dowdy "first wives" - the wife of septuagenarian Manmohan Singh underplays it in a russet saree and thick black coat in London, Indian President Pratibha Patil favours white widow-ish sarees and President of the Indian National Congress, Sonia Gandhi - named as the third most powerful woman in the world by Forbes magazine - prefers to hide behind her son Rahul Gandhi. Even PM hopeful Mayawati Kumari wears socks with sandals. Goodness, where has all the glamour gone girls?

Perhaps we should take a leaf out of Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner's book - she's the glamour girl (pictured left) with the perfect manicure and oh, she's also the President of Argentina!
