Business & Entertainment Update
Editorial: Invisible Asians

Lopa Patel, Editor - Redhotcurry.comI've been a busy bunny this week, so virtually invisible in the office. It's got me thinking about us Asians - why is it that we choose to remain so invisible? Even as Tamils are being peeled off Westminster roofs and off Parliament Square tarmac in their protest against the atrocities in Sri Lanka, the rest of us go about our business, heads down, not protesting. I wish I could say it was in the pursuit of health, wealth or happiness.

The reality is much more depressing. Is it a sense of powerlessness, an inability to make a difference, fear of being noticed and victimised or is it just sheer laziness? I pondered this question as I met 150 Asian business owners angry about losing out on London Olympics 2012 contracts. I then met a load of entrepreneurs angry about lack of finance for business growth (despite what the banks say) and even more wondering why Asian Arts is so fragmented in Britain.

Perhaps the time has come for Asians to be more visible in Britain? And as someone kindly pointed out, I should put my own face to my own words! So here it is (pasted above). Less of that next week, I promise!
