Editorial: Jai Ho! Asian girlpower celebrated
"I'll tell you what I want, what I really really want,
So tell me what you want, what you really really want,
I wanna, I wanna, I wanna, I wanna, I wanna really
really really wanna zigazig ha."
(Spice Girls, Wannabe Lyrics)

Kishani Jayasinghe, winner of the AWA Award 2009 for Arts & Culture.Yeah, I know, crap lyrics but great Spice Girls style! And last night, Asian (Spice) Girlpower took some beating at the Asian Women of Achievement (AWA) Awards 2009 - all my pics from the event can be found via links below. Not even Prince Charles' Global Empowerment Award could dim the sheer luminescence of the AWA winners. Joanna Lumley, that other gorgeous Honorary Indian, has won victory for the Gurkhas with the British Government's dramatic U-turn on Gurkha settlement rights.

And let's not forget Sonia Gandhi's steady hand behind the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance that grasped victory in the Indian elections. Jai Ho indeed!
