for the World' Award Honours Four International
Personalities |
Fazle
Hasan Abed, who is a promoter of microcredit
finance and initiated the Bangladesh Rural
Advancement Committee (BRAC), received the
'Entrepreneur for the World' award in the
category Social Entrepreneur at the World
Entrepreneurship Forum in Lyon, France, on
19 November 2009. Fours awards are given to
international personalities in the entrepreneur,
social entrepreneur, academic expert and political
categories.

just one in ten aspiring entrepreneurs in
the UK set up their own business, 647,000
businesses would be created, potentially employing
1.1 million people, according to figures released
by Enterprise UK at Global Entrepreneurship
Week.
One of those celebrating the launch of his
business was 23-year old Rajeeb Dey whose

with students looking for work placements.

Scottish Asian Business Awards 2009 paid
tribute to Asian business men and women,
from business giants to budding entrepreneurs,
who are at the forefront of their industry.
Over 500 people attended the awards night
on 11 November 2009 in Glasgow, including
First Minister, Alex Salmond; Secretary
of State for Scotland, Jim Murphy; Baroness
Sayeeda Warsi and entrepreneur; Charan Gill.

2009 for 'Masala Masala' |
27-year
old former laywer Priya Lakhani has won the
'Enterprising Young Brits' Award 2009 for
her range of authentic Indian cooking sauces
marketed under the 'Masala Masala' brand.
Priya made the change from lawyer to entrepreneur
last year, and in this short time has already
managed to secure deals with premium department
stores and delis in 30 countries.

Daksha Kumar brushes off retirement to launch
a food empire |
At
the age of 65, sprightly Daksha Kumar has
just been signed by Tesco to be the sole supplier
for its new range of chilled home-style ready-made
Indian foods. So impressive is her home-style
range that even producers of the TV show Dragons
Den once approached her to pitch on the show
- but Daksha refused. And her decision to
stay out of the Den has paid off as she launches
her range through select Tesco stores.

Food Awards 2009 Winners |
Meena

Noon and Levi Root of Dragons Den fame
are among the winners who were celebrated
at the inaugural World Food Awards on 31st
October in London. Winners were selected by
a panel of industry experts including celebrity
chefs Ainsley Harriott and TV cookery presenter,
Anjum Anand.
