Achievers Awards 2009
|
The
ninth annual Asian Achievers Awards, as organised
by the Asian Business Publications Group,
were celebrated on Thursday 3rd December 2009
at Wembley Stadium in London. Over 750 individuals
had gathered to see chief guest Baroness Shriti
Vadera honour Asians in nine categories. Among
those recognised was actor Nitin Ganatra,
who received an award for his contribution
to the 'Food for Life' campaign.

largest Muslim umbrella body - views the results
of the referendum on the banning of minarets
in Switzerland as a tragic and deplorable
development. The Swiss system of putting such
decisions to the people in a referendum is
laudable in itself but reveals the extent
to which far right racist groups are winning
the battle of ideas on the future of Europe.

40 Years of the 'Hare Krishnas' in London

has been forty years since the "Hare
Krishnas" made their mark on Oxford Street
in London's West End with the unmistakable
sounds of cymbals. Since then, the Hare Krishna
movement has grown into a major international
organization, with more than 400 centres,
60 organic farms, 52 schools, 60 restaurants
and the UK's first state-funded Hindu school.

its annual conference on Saturday 21st November
at the City University, London. The conference
tackled the misconceptions of the Hindu
faith that are common in the wider world

wedding to Raj Kundra on 24 November 2009.
Described as the "Bollywood wedding of
the year", Shetty and her husband Raj
Kundra flew over the UK Asian artists to entertain
A-list guests such as Amitabh Bachchan, Ashwariya
Rai, Hrithik Roshan, Shah Rukh Khan and many
more at the reception held at the Hyatt in
Mumbai.

Kumar receives Olympic torch from Canadian
Prime Minister |
Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar received
the Olympic Torch from the Canadian Prime
Minister, Stephen Harper, at an inaugural
event in Mumbai. Akshay was presented with
the honour of becoming the Indian Ambassador
for the 2010 Olympic Games in Canada and was
introduced by the Prime Minister as the sole
torch-bearer from India.
