Editorial: Bosses from hell.

Glenda StoneThis week has been all about the "bosses from hell". Glenda Stone, the former co-chair of the Women's National Commission Enterprise Taskforce, was found guilty of unfair dismissal of an employee and had to pay nearly £29,000 compensation. This led to a nasty article on female bosses by Amanda Platell to which I felt compelled to respond. Glenda's case caught the headlines because she sat on the board of a Public Body.

The Hindu Council UK (HCUK) published its Public Appointments Strategy yesterday, claiming that too many re-appointments in the Public Sector are preventing British Asians from getting a "foot in the door". The scale of the issue? 18,500 appointments to over 1200 Public Bodies. HCUK wants it to be less of the "usual suspects" and more of the "unusual suspects"....I suspect!

Redhotcurry Blog: Parsis have civilization; other Indians don't.
Ratan TataIndians have culture but not civilization. Culture is how we entertain ourselves; civilization is how we entertain others. Culture is our attitude to beauty and ugliness, to power, to religion, and to family. It shows in our music, in what makes us laugh. Civilization is our attitude to mankind. It's defined as social development of an advanced stage, but civilization never actually arrives; it is only reached for. It assumes there is high purpose to life, to wealth, to culture. right arrow read more
Redhotcurry Blog: Are the Tories really headed for a landslide victory?
David Cameron The media appears to be dominated with the bad news stories about the Labour party and UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown in particular. Even the Iraq enquiry is confirming what many already believe, that is that we went to war on the basis of the "dodgy dossier". 'The Sun' newspaper has come out in favour of the Conservative party, but the Ethnic Minority Business Group sees a far less clear-cut picture. right arrow read more
Redhotcurry Blog: Why educated Indians are only half-literate
Indian farmerCan India's high growth continue? No. Last year India produced goods and services worth $1.2 trillion. This is around Rs50,000 per Indian. Too many re-appointments in Public Sector discriminating against British Asians
Glass ceilingAn excessive number of re-appointments in the UK Public Sector are preventing British Asians from getting their first public appointment claims the Hindu Council UK. It has published a list of re-appointments in the past year showing that the majority of UK's NDPBs are re-appointing board directors far too frequently; paying them too much and signing them up for far too long. right arrow read more
