REDHOTCURRY.COM - A CELEBRATION OF ASIAN LIFE IN THE UK

Issue 59, Tuesday 25 January 2005

Greetings Curry Lovers!

A possible Europe-wide ban has spurred the Hindu Forum of Britain to launch a campaign to reclaim the Swastika as a symbol of good fortune. Stephen Pound MP has already tabled an Early Day Motion in the House of Commons and others are now learning to appreciate the distinction between its misuse by the Nazis and its ancient and proper use as a religious symbol by Hindus, Jains and Buddhists.

Elsewhere, Asian Bid Ambassadors are backing the London 2012 Olympic Bid, the OBV & CRE launched the Commissioner Shadowing Scheme, Amir Khan was voted Sony's 'Sports Personality of the Year' and painters, the Singh Twins, have been nominated for an Asian Jewel Awards 2005. Earlier in the week, the Chief Inspector of Schools angered Muslims by asserting the Muslim Schools posed a threat to our 'coherence as a nation' for failing to teach citizenship classes!

All-in-all a fairly typical week then. Backslapping and congratulations on one side and hand-slapping admonishment on the other!
