'THE
BOMBAY BRASSERIE' CELEBRATES 25TH ANNIVERSARY

'The
Bombay Brasserie' celebrated its 25th birthday
on 10th December 2007 by hosting a party for India's
most celebrated fashion designers. The Bombay
Brasserie, that first opened its doors on 10 December
10th December 1982, has a tasteful mix of ambience,
design and location, and is conveniently located
opposite Gloucester Road tube station. Under the
expert guidance of Adi Modi and Executive chef
Jaspal Singh Arora of the Taj Hotels Group, the
restaurant aims to serve the finest in authentic
flavours of the Raj.
Among
those invited to the 25th anniversary celebration
were designers Ritu Kumar and Rohit Bal and Indian
artist Paresh Maity. From its inception, Bombay
Brasserie has been committed to bringing to the
very heart of London a unique blend of fine regional
Indian home cuisine and traditional colonial Indian
décor. The interior design of Bombay Brasserie
is a a relaxed atmosphere in a traditional setting
with a wonderfully airy conservatory or the opulent
dining room to choose between.
The
restaurant brings together a wide range of culinary
influences from Parsi, Goan, Bengali, Gujerati,
North and South India, together with Portuguese
and Raj tastes. The experience begins with a selection
of mouth-watering starters including Grilled Scallops
in Honey and Ginger or Dum Ka Bater ( fresh quail
cooked in a sealed pot with yoghurt, almond and
cashew nut puree with the chef's special garam
Masala).
The main courses, feature
everything from traditional dishes such as Chicken
Tikka to more unusual house specialties such as
Black Cod Bombay Brasserie, or the delectable
Lamb Nihari. For dessert Bombay Brasserie has
again excelled with a stunning list of tropical
fruit sorbets and kulfi as well as more unusual
Indian desserts such as Lagan Nu Custard (a Parsi
egg custard flavoured with rosewater, vanilla
and topped with sunflower seeds) and Narangi Malpoa
(orange flavoured milk pancakes served with clotted
cream).
The restaurant was won many
accolades including: 2005 - 2006 'Best Indian
Restaurant' British Curry Awards. Best Indian
Restaurant' Good Curry Guide, 1982 - 2004 and
'Lifetime Achievement Award' Good Curry Guide.
MR ADI MODI - PRINCIPAL
Mr
Adi Modi trained as an hotelier in 1972 at the
Taj in Bombay before opening the renowned Bombay
Brasserie in London in 1982. After several years
as General Manager, Mr Modi is now Senior Vice
President & Director of Taj International
Hotels Ltd. In 1999, Mr Modi opened the award-winning
Quilon Restaurant, personally overseeing all aspects
of the design, cuisine and staff selection.
JASPAL SINGH ARORA - EXECUTIVE
CHEF
Jaspal Singh Arora comes
to London following a successful career in a range
of illustrious hotels within the Taj Group in
India. In 2003 he became the sous chef at Masala
Bay Restaurant at Taj Landsend, a specialty fine-dining
restaurant with interactive cooking and a display
kitchen. It was from there that his reputation
as a culinary innovator with a passion for exciting
and creative dishes developed, leading to his
new position as executive chef at the Bombay Brasserie.
