BANGLADESH CATERERS' ASSOCIATION AWARDS 2007

Image copyright of Sohail Anjum.The Bangladesh Caterers' Association (BCA) UK Ltd - the umbrella organisation representing approximately 12,000 British-Bangladeshi restaurateurs in the UK -is to present the BCA Awards on Sunday 2nd December 2007 in London. The BCA Annual Dinner 2007 will mark the 47th anniversary of the association's establishment and is the awards reward the very best Bangladeshi restaurants in the UK. At present, the restaurant industry employs more than 90,000 people, of mostly Bangladeshi origin, with an estimated yearly turnover of £3.5 billion.

The event also recognises and awards the organisation's veterans, applauding them for their continuous loyalty and hard work since the inception of the BCA in 1960, and the efforts of community leaders who have devoted their time and effort within their respective institutions and industry.

The theme for the this year's even is 'Tastes to Share, Food to Admire', which will profile the glorious history of Bangladeshi cuisine, with a retrospect on the changed tastes it has created for the UK's burgeoning food market. "The 'Tastes to Share, Food to Admire' theme helps us to think about the impact of how Bangladeshi foods have long been admired by the British society and consider what we can do to work to protect our legacy of food and culture and hand it down to the next generation" said Mr N R Khandaker Pasha, the Secretary General of BCA.

Among those expected to attend are the Rt Hon Hillary Benn MP, Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Rt Hon Ed Miliband MP ' Minister for the Cabinet Office and Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, Jonathan Shaw MP, Michael Foster MP, Lord Neil Kinnock, Lord Nazir Ahmed, Baroness Paula Uddin, Lord Andrew Mawson and Lord Karan Bilimoria.
