is almost a crime to describe this group of London's top ten curry
experts as "curry chefs"! Pioneers of Indian cuisine, they
are leaders in innovation, authentic textures and flavours, artistic
presentation, culinary performance and are all round masters of the
art of cooking. I had considered calling them Britain's Top Ten Best
Curry Chefs, but the eagle-eyed among you will have noticed that they
are all based in London, a city widely-recognised as a global capital
for Indian cuisine.

CURRY AWARDS 2008 |
The
Scottish Curry Awards took place on the 13th of March 2008 in the
Thistle Hotel, Glasgow. Guests included: Carol Smillie, Shereen Nanjiani,
John Smeaton, Bernard Ponsonby, Lorraine Davidson, Charan Gill and
Dr. Wali Uddin.The hosts for the evening were cookery writer Anjum
Anand and the comedian Jeff Mirza.

Turban' in Westbourne Grove in London. Inspired by the informal
street eateries of India, Urban Turban enables diners

before. Vineet intends to roll out the Urban Turban concept across
the UK.

INDIAN CHEF OF THE YEAR 2008 |
A
Staffordshire chef, D.Vassaramo of 'Thornbury Hall Rasoi, beat off
stiff competition from seven other expert cooks on 25 February to
win the International Indian Chef of the Year 2008 title and a £1000
prize. The competition for both amateur and professional cooks was
founded by Tommy Miah to promote innovation in Indian cuisine.

| QUILON
AWARDED A MICHELIN STAR IN 2008 GUIDE |
Michelin
today released its 2008 guide for Great Britain and Ireland awarding
fifteen restaurants their first Michelin star, keeping the total of
establishments holding stars in Great Britain and Ireland to 122.
Among the recipients this year, is Indian restaurant 'Quilon' under
executive chef Aylur Sriram. Other India restaurants awarded a Michelin
star are Mayfair based restaurants 'Tamarind' and 'Amaya', Vineet
Bhatia's 'Rasoi' and Atul Kochhar's 'Benares.

The
multibillion-pound curry industry in Britain is facing ruin because
of a crippling shortage of workers in the kitchen fuelled by harsh
immigration rules that favour East Europeans over South Asians, a
leading immigration body said. The curry industry is said to employ
some 80,000 people.
