Scottish Curry Awards 2015 WinnersThe winners of the eighth annual Scottish Curry Awards were announced on 23rd March 2015 at ceremony hosted by Mani Liaqat. Guests on the night also included former Boxing Champion Gary Jacobs and professional boxer Haroon Khan. As well as the awards ceremony, guests were treated to a special performance by a dance group Bollyfeat. As well as recognising the curry industry in all its facets, the event also raised just over £6500 for the official charity partner the Amir Khan Foundation. £3.6 billion restaurant industry celebrated at the British Curry Awards 2014The UK's £3.6 billion curry industry and the nation's favourite cuisine were celebrated at the tenth anniversary British Curry Awards on Monday 1st December 2014. Among the guests were: The Rt Hon Teresa May MP, Home Secretary; business figure, Dr Vijay Mallya, Chairman, UB Group; MP's Chris Grayling, Andrew Rosindell, Nicky Morgan, Keith Vaz; footballer David Seaman MBE; Paralympian David Weir CBE; broadcasters Krishnan Guru-Murthy, Maxine Mawhinney, Rageh Omaar; actors Adil Ray, Shobu Kapoor and Shobna Gulati, among others. right arrow read more
Housewife wins the International Indian Chef of the Year 2014 competition
Housewife wins the International Indian Chef of the Year 2014 competitionManjula Arumugan, a housewife from Harrow, scooped the International Indian Chef of the Year 2014 title on 28th November 2014. Alongside the top prize of £1000, she also scooped the prize for the best vegetarian dish for her crispy sweet corn fritters. The prize is dedicated to the memory of Lord Fraser of Carmyllie QC who was the chair of the judging panel until his death in 2013. The £250 Bertha Forrester Prize for the best dish was won by professional chef Mushfiqur Rahman for his Rajasthani lamb laal maas. The competition, founded by Edinburgh entrepreneur Tommy Miah was launched in 1991. right arrow read more

Northern Indian Awadhi cuisine returns to Kensington as Zaika re-opensOn 22nd November, Kensington’s beloved Indian restaurant, Zaika, reopened its doors with a menu of Northern Indian Awadhi cuisine; a new team with executive chef Sanjay Gour, and a revived look to the 120 cover restaurant space. Located at 1 Kensington High Street, the reincarnation of Zaika comes by popular demand and will be a sister restaurant to Tamarind of Mayfair, the first ever Indian restaurant to be awarded with a Michelin star. Dipna Anand of Southall was named 'Curry Queen of the Year' at the English Curry Awards 2014The winners of the fourth annual English Curry Awards were announced at the AJ Bell Stadium, Manchester on Monday 13th October 2014. Over 10,000 nominations came in from all across England and the race to be crowned at this year's awards ceremony was an extremely tight contest. The event was hosted by Sunny and Shay Grewal, the couple from the Bafta nominated Channel 4's 'The Family' . As well as recognising the curry industry, the event also raised just over £1500 for the official charity partners The Well Foundation. right arrow read more
Asian restaurant opens its doors to next generation 'Masala Millionaires'

At the lunch DCLG Permanent Secretary Sir Bob Kerslake joined guests including award-winning chef and BBC 1 ‘Saturday Kitchen’ regular Cyrus Todiwala, along with Michelin starred chef Alfred Prasad to help raise over £12,000 on the day. right arrow read more
Young people not aware of chef apprenticeship places on offer
Atuk KochharAccording to new YouGov research, commissioned by the Hospitality Guild, almost one in every three (30%) 16-24 year olds and 30 per cent of unemployed people would consider working in a top Asian or Oriental restaurant, yet a new apprenticeship scheme to train chefs in Asian and Oriental cuisine is not fully subscribed despite government funding available for training apprentices (100% of training is covered for 16-18 year olds, 50% for 19+ year olds). right arrow read more
