INDIAN FILM ACADEMY (IIFA) AWARD WINNERS 2007

Image copyright of Kedar Nene (Fotocorp).The stars of the Indian film industry descended upon Sheffield's Hallam FM Arena for the IIFA Awards 2007 on Saturday 9 June for a grand finale to the action-packed IIFA Weekend. Shilpa Shetty, Amitabh, Abhishek and Aishwarya Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan, Akshay Kumar, Salman Khan, Anil Kapoor, Preity Zinta, Saif Ali Khan, Bipasha Basu and Katrina Kaif were but a few of the 500 luminaries of Indian cinema to attend this year's event. The IIFA Weekend is expected to have boosted tourism in the host region, Yorkshire, by more than £9.5m and attracted 30,000 extra visitors from all over the world.

The IIFA Awards 2007 were hosted by ex-Miss Universe and new industry starlet, Lara Dutta, accompanied by comedy kingpin, Boman Irani, while industry golden boy and filmmaker, Karan Johar, presented the awards section. There were stage performances by Shilpa Shetty, Abhishek Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Bipasha Basu, Saif Ali Khan, Salman Khan and Govinda, Emraan Hashmi and Aftab Shivdasani.

Actor Upen Patel received the IIFA Star TV Award for Debut of the year (male) category.Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell, actor Colin Firth and Olympic silver-medal winner Amir Khan, were among the guests to present the prestigious awards at the ceremony, including the IIFA Award for 'Debut of the Year (Male)', that was presented to British-Asian heartthrob, Upen Patel, for his performance in '36 China Town'. Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's phenomenal Box Office success, the BAFTA-nominated Rang De Basanti (Colour of Sacrifice) swept an impressive four accolades at the awards ceremony, including Idea IIFA Award for Best Picture.

  • Best Actor in a Supporting Role: Arshad Warsi for Lage Raho Munnabhai
  • Best Actress in a Supporting Role: Soha Ali Khan for Rang De Basanti
  • Special Award for Global Impact: Shilpa Shetty
  • Outstanding Achievement by an Indian in International Cinema: Deepa Mehta
  • Creative Person of the Year: Rakesh Roshan for Krrish
  • Glamour Star of the Year Male: Hrithik Roshan
  • Glamour Star of the Year Female: Aishwarya Rai
  • Best Performance in a Negative Role: Saif Ali Khan for Omkara
  • Best Performance in a Comic Role: Tusshar Kapoor for Golmaal
  • Best Story: Rajkumar Hirani for Lage Raho Munnabhai
  • Best Screenplay: Rensil Dsilva and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra for Rang De Basanti
  • Best Dialogue: Rajkumar Hirani and Abhijat Joshi for Lage Raho Munnabhai
  • IIFA for STAR TV Debut of the Year Male: Upen Patel for 36 China Town
  • IIFA for STAR TV Debut of the Year Female: Kangana Ranaut for Gangster
  • Best Music Direction: A.R. Rahman for Rang De Basanti
