BAFTA CELEBRATES SCREEN LEGEND AMITABH BACHCHAN

Image copyright of Pramod Thakur (Fotocorp).The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) is holding a weekend dedicated to Bollywood screen legend Amitabh Bachchan on 16 and 17 June 2007. Amitabh Bachchan will be the first focus of a new strand of events for BAFTA, Screen Icons will celebrate an iconic screen figure. The weekend will showcase Amitabh's enormous success and contribution to the Indian film industry with screenings and evenings dedicated to Bollywood's most celebrated superstar.

Amitabh Bachchan is one of the most powerful actors in Indian cinema with a career that has spanned more than three decades. With over 160 films and a multitude of international awards, honours and recognitions to his credit, Bachchan changed the face of Indian cinema with the "Angry Young Man" persona he established in the seventies.

It was the beginning of the Amitabh Bachchan era with world wide hits such as Sholay, Don, Amar Akbar Anthony and Kabhi Kabhie launching Bachchan into cinema history. Through this phenomenal actor, Indian cinema began to get noticed and recognised across the world, eventually growing into one of the biggest film industries in the world today.
