REDHOTCURRY REVIEW

Rating: flameflameflameflameflame (5 flames)

This book is quite simply the best business book I have read in ages. Packed with facts, case studies and anecdotal evidence, it highlights the issues involved in dealing with India. Everything from legal, infrastructure, economic and inward investment vehicles to showcasing the pharmaceutical and energy sectors. Company formation, dispute resolution, intellectual property rights, consumer protection, accounting and tax issues are all covered, alongside the ''softer' people issues, language and communication and business culture in one of Asia's fastest growing economies.

Nobody doubts that by 2025 India will easily become a new economic superpower, about 60% the size of the US economy according to this book. With an economy in rapid growth and development based on a strong industrial backbone, it is apparent that Western businesses should be doing business in India. The dilemma is...how is this best achieved?

Consultant Editor Roderick Millar has pulled together a group of elite contributors to this debate - ranging from lawyers, economists and journalists to software engineers - all highlighting successful routes to market, avoiding the legal, infrastructure and economic pitfalls along the way. I would suggest not even contemplating dealing with India without reading this book from cover to cover first. It's worth every penny of its hefty price tag!

SYNOPSIS

India's phenomenal economic growth has been built on its substantial market potential, a rapidly developing middle class, dynamic local companies with global scope, progressive and continuous economic liberalisation since 1991, a skilled workforce and competitive advantages in many sectors including computers, outsourcing, steel, pharmaceuticals and textiles.

This fully revised second edition of Doing Business with India, produced by GMB Publishing Ltd., aims to support and inform foreign entrepreneurs wanting to enter this vital market. It provides an authoritative survey of the economic climate, investment potential, commercial opportunity and business practice in India. In addition, this book:

  • Analyses the key industry sectors which offer good opportunities for foreign investment and trade;
  • Assesses the 'outsourcing' revolution and considers best practice through a number of recent case studies;
  • Provides authoritative insight into commercial law; accounting, auditing and taxation practices; banking, foreign exchange, M&A, corporate and structured finance; and marketing issues which are unique to Indian markets.

With forewords from Kamal Nath, Minister for Commerce and Industry; and R Seshasayee, President, Confederation of Indian Industry, Doing Business with India also boasts expert contributions from:

  • Winning Communications
  • KPMG
  • DTZ Debenham Tie Leung
  • NASSCOM
  • Management Development Institute Confederation of Indian Industry
  • Shilputsi Consultants
  • Synovate
  • Titus & Co (one of India's leading full service commercial law firms)
