The
popularity of Bollywood and Bhangra classes dancing has inspired
a series of dance workshops at the London Mind Body Spirit Festival
to be held from 21-26 May 2008. The Festival has even more moves
to try with Impact Dance, Yoga Ballet Fusion, Shiva Shakti (tantric)
and Sufi Sacred dance all on the agenda. The Festival continues
the Asian theme with concerts of Indian classical music, performances
of a variety of different yoga styles, the chanting of healing mantras
and Krishan bhajans.
Gathering
together a host of professional teachers under one roof means even
the most shy performer can experiment with new moves and discover
why dance is now the second most popular school activity after football.
Vandana Alimchandani, founder of the Bollywood Grooves dance company
is bringing her mix of Indian, Italian, American, Brazilian, English
and Turkish teachers and performers to the Festival. 'My classes
are almost always filled to capacity,' she says, 'and Bollywood
is particularly attractive to those who love a workout but hate
the gym - it's definitely not just for skinny Indian girls!'
Also
showcasing at the Festival is Biodanza, a dynamic and joyful dance
form, practised worldwide, that claims to help you live life to
the full by freeing your body and opening your heart to harmony.
Teacher Gita Sootarsing says Biodanza is 'for people wanting more
fun and more life balance'. Her classes appeal equally to men and
women of all ages and sizes
Titanya,
a professional dancer and teacher will be explaining all about Energy
Dance and Zambra Mora at the Festival. Energy Dance, a combination
of ancient inspired exercises set to uplifting music, 'is about
finding your own energy and freeing the body,' she says. "Zambra
Mora is a traditional Spanish belly dance, danced by gypsies, and
as the predecessor of Flamenco is perfect for those looking to bring
out their inner passion."
The
2008 London Mind Body Spirit Festival runs from 21-26th May 2008
at the Royal Horticultural Halls, Victoria, central London. Now
in its 32nd year, the Festival attracts 20,000 visitors annually
and is the longest running event of its kind worldwide.
