WHAT
MAKES YOU UNIQUE?
21 - 28 August 2004
The
National Hindu Students Forum is hosting a series of free public
meetings for parents and Students to highlight the work of the organisation,
specifically amongst young people about to start University. Entitled
'What Makes You Unique? What Makes You Who You Are?' the series
of meetings will take place up and down the country. A short film
about the NHSF will be followed by open discussion where students
and parents get to meet current volunteers from the NHSF and students
from a range of universities.
Dharmesh
Mistry, President of The National Hindu Students Forum (NHSF) said
"University life presents many opportunities for us as young
people. The chance to learn, not only about your chosen subject
but also about yourself; about people around you; about life. Hindu
Societies around the country provide that vital opportunity to remain
in touch with your culture, your community and your heritage. I
think the Hindu Society is vital".
Over
the last thirteen years there has been a transformation on the campuses
of UK universities and the general student community as a whole.
What began as a stall with a few students at the Hindu Marathon,
just thirteen years ago has now emerged as the largest student body
for Hindu Youth in Europe, with local branches at over 50 universities
and Institutions of higher education. The National Hindu Students
Forum (NHSF) UK was set up in 1991 with the aim of providing a platform
for Hindu students and for developing a better understanding of
Hindu Dharma and to instil its eternal principles into daily life.
Through social, cultural, educational and Sewa events, NHSF (UK)
provides a vehicle for the organisation of Hindu Youth activity
and the organisation is in contact with over 10,000 Asian Youth
today.
