Mayor Ken Livingstone said: 'This year’s respect festival was a success. 70,000 people came to Victoria Park for a peaceful, family festival that celebrates the diversity of London and stands up against racism in all its forms. Those attending were treated to performances by Big Brovaz, Jay Sean and Terri Walker and there was a friendly atmosphere throughout the event. The multi -cultural crowd reflected the fact that London is a city where different communities live side by side in harmony."

Over 70,000 people came down to Victoria Park on Saturday 17th July 2004 to enjoy the respect festival. The festival was crammed with a host of attractions including nine stages of music (including the respect main stage, Urban, Sunrise Mela, Choice, Dub and Cuban stages), a children’s play area with a train simulator and funfair, plus cultural stalls and exhibitions and a wide variety of food and refreshments.

Artists performing on the day included: Big Brovaz, Raghav, TY, Lady Sovereign, DJ Tim Westwood, FYA , Smuji, Untouchables, Rishi Rich, Juggy D, Apache Indian, Jay Sean, Shola Ama, Terri Walker and comedians Gina Yashere, Shazia Mirza and Curtis Walker.
