Armaan
Armaan
Directed. Honey Irani,
India, 2003(PG)
Cast: Amitabh Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Preity Zinta, Gracy Singh, Hrithik Roshan

Armaan is scriptwriter-turned-director Honey Irani's directorial debut. Establishing herself as one of the leading scriptwriters in the Indian film industry today, Irani has surprised and impressed many by bringing together a heavyweight cast consisting of the legendary Bachchan, the unswerving Anil Kapoor and leading actress Priety Zinta for the very first time.

This family drama is set against the backdrop of a hospital owned by Philanthropist Dr Sinha (Bachchan), who dreams of running a state of the art hospital - a hospital free from discrimination. Dr Akash (Kapoor) is his son who is equally devoted to his profession as well as his father. However, Akash is thrown into emotional turmoil after meeting Soniya (Zinta), a rich and arrogant young woman, who attempts to buy his love through a financial agreement. The unusual climax soars as Akash is torn between his love for fellow colleague Neha (Singh) and his duty towards fulfilling his father's dream.

As the title suggests, Armaan, meaning 'desire' attempts to explore the complexity of human relationships as well as portraying individual desires and dreams.

This film is in Hindi with English subtitles.
