Yaadon ki Baaraat

Directed by Nasir Hussain, India, 1973, 154mins
Cast: Dharmendra, Zeenat Aman, Tariq, Vijay Arora.
Print Source: Eros International.

Yaadon Ki BaaraatIndian cinema's recurrent 'lost-and-found' storyline had one of its most popular outings in this colourful, emotional saga, in which three brothers are separated at an early age when their parents are murdered, with their lives going on to take very different paths. Shankar (Dharmendra) becomes a powerful gangster, Vijay (Vijay Arora) is adopted by a kindly widower, and the youngest Ratan (Tariq) hits the big time as a pop-star, but of course eventually their paths must cross…

Highlight of the movie has to be Asha Bhosle's rendition of 'Chura Liya Hain', strummed beautifully by Zeenat Aman, but as well as paying tribute to Asha this is a good time to remember the achievements of producer-director Nasir Hussain, who died earlier this year. Also look out for Hussain's nephew, budding star Aamir Khan, who makes his screen debut here at the age of eight playing the child Ratan.
