REVIEW
Calmness (Shantham) directed by Jayaraaj   Calmness (Shantham)
Dir Jayaraaj
India 2001
95mins,
Malayalam/English subtitles,
Certifcate: 15

Set in beautiful North Kerala, Calmness is an intense and powerful film which unfolds like a Greek tragedy to reveal the universal ramifications of violence and makes a plea for calmness and peace. Starring Seema Biswas (star of Bandit Queen) as the grieving mother of a son killed by his lifelong friend and member of a rival political movement, the film focuses on the moment that the mothers of both the killer and the killed meet at the Thirunavaya temple.

"An intensely moving tale… With his characteristically excellent story telling skills, and stunning cinematography, Jayaraaj once again produces an engrossing story." Regus London Film Festival
