Asian Art in London 2004

ASIAN ART IN LONDON
4th – 12th November 2004

The seventh, annual, Asian Art in London, will take place this year from the 4th-12th November, starting with a launch party for 500 at the V&A Museum on Friday 5th November. This year the enormous range and extraordinary quality of Asian Art, both antique and modern, assembled by the Participants, is a testament as to how seriously London is seen as the centre for the Arts of Asia.

During the Event, Dealers’ galleries will hold special open evenings for collectors and the curious alike, starting with a reception held by Pimlico Dealer, Joss Graham on Thursday 4th of November. The V&A, alongside its exhibition, “Encounters: The Meeting of Asia & Europe 1500-1800”, will also hold a lecture on “The Jesuits and the Great Mughal: Renaissance at the imperial court of India” by G A Bailey and Asia House’s “Asia Body Mind & Spirit” exhibition encompasses treasures from the Wellcome Library. Institutions on the outskirts of London and beyond also host exhibitions to coincide with the Asian Art in London event such as The Fan Museum’s “Pankha” a show of hand crafted fans.

From a different corner of the Asian globe, Simon Ray Indian & Islamic Works of Art has a stunning 18th century Turkish tile with the “Tiger Stripes” or “Buddha Lips” motif, thought to have originated in Central Asia and Samina Inc’s fabulous exhibition will comprise “Mughal & Deccan Indian Jewelled Arts from the 17th-19th century”. Prahlad Bubbar, will exhibit an array of Indian Miniature paintings and pictures from the 16th-20th century. Also in the Indian Miniature field, leading specialist Francesca Galloway has an exhibition including “Persian & Indian miniatures”.

Asian Art in London runs from 4 - 12 November 2004
