Natasha KumarNatasha Kumar first excelled as a printmaker; going from a first class degree at Manchester to teaching in Sheffield, and studying in Venice. She completed her MA in London in 2000, winning the London Printmaking Prize. She is now exhibiting her Watercolours and Art on Paper Fair at London's Science Museum from 1st - 5th February 2012. M F Husain passes away in London aged 95
M F HusainMaqbool Fida Husain (17 September 1915 - 9 June 2011), popularly known as MF and dubbed the "Picasso of India", passed away in a London hospital on Thursday 9th June 2011 according Reuters. He was prominent Indian painter who created controversy with depictions of naked Hindu goddesses that were interpreted as anti-Hindu. Untitled, Figure on a Rickshaw by Tyeb MehtaChristie’s sale of South Asian Modern & Contemporary Art on Thursday 9th June 2011 realised £4,315,650 with the top lot being an Untitled work (Figure on Rickshaw) by Tyeb Mehta (1925-2009) which fetched £1,973,250 setting a new world auction record for the artist. The sale presented a strong array of works by the celebrated masters of the Progressive Artists Group, through to the biggest names in Indian and Pakistani contemporary art. read more read more

Maqbool Fida Hussain's Ragmala Series, oil on canvas'Asian artworks are holding their price despite the recession according to the latest Christie’s sale of South Asian Modern Art sale held on 10 June 2009 which saw M F Husain's 'Ragamala Series' oil on canvas fetch £397,250; Rashid Rana's 'Red Carpet' a chromogenic print attain £175,250 and Ram Kumar's Untitled (Benares) Oil on canvas, 1963 fetch £133, 250, both from Asian private investors. read more read more
F N Souza, Tyeb Mehta Top Christie's Modern Indian Art Sale
Painting by Francis Newton Souza.Works of Francis Newton Souza and Tyeb Mehta were the highlights of the Christie's sale of contemporary Indian art , which included works from Tina Ambani's Harmony Art Foundation. Souza's 1955 work "Birth" sold for £1,273,250 ($2.5 million) as against an estimate of £600,000-800,000 while Mehta's 1984 untitled (Figure on Rickshaw) went for £982,050 as against an estimate of £300,000-500,000 pounds.' read more read more

Abdur Rahman Chughtai's 'Guarded Beauty' fetched £66,000 against an estimate of £40,000 to £60,000 - a world record price for Chughtai. A world record price - £145,600 - was achieved for Lot 328, The Tree, the Bird, the Shadow, by Jagdish Swaminathan (India 1928-1993) against an estimate of £40,000 to £60,000 at the Bonhams Modern Indian, Pakistani and Arab paintings Sale last week.
