'Lives in Translation': a new exhibition by photographer, Parminder Sekhon that documents the story of Sikh lives in London. The show is a collection of 30 photographic images in a mix of black and white and colour. These images highlight Sikh struggle such as the recent protests against the banning of turbans in France; The Royal Mail Series, looks at migration and home; while Young Sikh Chic, explores how eastern and western influences impact on heritage and culture.

Lives In Translation by Parminder Sekhon"I have been photographing Vaisakhi and Nagar Kirtan (Vaisakhi Procession) celebrations in Southall for the last few years and wanted to bring together an aspect of my identity as a Sikh in my work."

Sekhon, who was brought up in Southall is a self -taught community based photographer. She is interested in the impact of culture and religion in the formation of identity. 'Lives in Translation' has been inspired by writer, Kathleen D. Hall's anthropological study on the patterns of migrations of Sikhs in the UK.

Parminder Sekhon is a photographer and artistic director of Mehtab Theatre Company. Her last show: The Maharajah's Daughters (2003) ran to great acclaim at Watermans. She also works in the area of health promotion among South Asian Lesbian and Gay communities as well as promoting visibility of these communities through the use of photography.
