PORTFOLIO DAY FOR ASIAN PHOTOGRAPHERS
(11 June 2005)

Sweets by Annie O'NeillAsian photography enthusiasts are being actively sought for two events running at the National Museum of Photography, Film and Television in Bradford this Summer. The Redeye photography network is holding a Portfolio Day on Saturday 11 June whereby anyone looking to take their photography further can book three 35-minute sessions with senior figures from the world of photography who will offer expert views on your portfolio. Redeye are also running an innovative Summer Exhibition Workshop.

The experts on hand will include Nick Booth (art editor, Vogue, UK), Greg Hobson (head of exhibitions, National Museum of Photography, Television and Film), Anne Braybon (art director, Management Today), Melissa DeWitt (editor, HotShoe), Diane Smythe (features editor, British Journal of Photography) and four-times Sport Photographer of the Year Eammon McCabe.

'This event offers a unique chance for people who take their photography seriously to benefit from the advice of the country's top names in the field,' says Redeye director Paul Herrmann. 'It doesn't matter which stage people are at so long as they have plenty of images to show the experts. We're keen to have people from under-represented communities and would love to see more budding photographers from Britain's South Asian communities at this event.'

The Portfolio Day costs £25 (£15 for unwaged) and includes three viewing sessions with the chosen experts plus a buffet lunch.

Redeye are also running an innovative Summer Exhibition Workshop at the Museum, with 10 sessions designed to equip photographers with the skills and expertise they need to exhibit their own work, from researching and developing ideas to producing finished work to exhibition standard. After 10 workshops on Saturday mornings from 2 July to 3 September, including guest lectures and group critiques, the participants' work will be shown at the Museum in an exhibition planned for September.

'The Workshop is for anyone who has a good knowledge of photography and wants to develop their skills with a view to exhibiting their images,' says Paul Herrmann. 'Again, people from the South Asian communities are underrepresented in this field and we would love to see more participants from those communities, which we hope would lead to more work from South Asian photographers getting into public view.' Redeye's talks programme has recently featured guest lectures from top Asian photographers including Roy Mehta and Janane Al-Ani.

The Summer Exhibition Workshop costs £120 (unwaged £60); anyone interested should contact Sabrina Fuller (Sabrina@redeye.org.uk) for more information; applications must be received by 6 June.
