2003
has already been a great year for the label.
Room 5's 'Make Luv' has been the talk of
the airwaves for weeks, and is set to give
pop's big guns a run for their money later
this month. Following closely on its heels
is Bhangra Knights Vs. Husan, another specialist
dance record that is fast becoming one of
the most talked about records of the year
'Husan'
was originally the work of Dutch producers, Husan, aka Niels Zuiderhoek
and Jeroen den Hengst. The duo were originally approached by Peugeot
to create a tune blending an exotic bhangra style with a western
funk-sound for their new Peugeot 206 TV advertising campaign (you
might have seen it!). Although composing music for TV ads was never
their ambition, Husan jumped on the opportunity straight away. They
hooked up with Indian singer Raja (guest vocalist) and initially
released the track under the artist name Bald N Spikey. The ad in
question has since been voted the 'best advert ever' by Radio Four
listeners.
During
this time, a remix of 'Husan' was made in the UK by Jules Spinner
(Lowered Recordings) and Jack Berry under the name Bhangra Knights.
When the guys had finished the production work they realised they'd
come up with something special and enlisted a rapper named Raul
to add verses to the instrumental. A handful of test pressings were
sent out and word spread rapidly. The track was soon receiving heavy
rotation play by the likes of Bobby Friction and Nihal at Radio
One. Pete Tong, Graeme Park, Judge Jules and Tall Paul were quick
to follow suit.
As
the artist title indicates, Bhangra Knights and Husan have now combined
forces and their single, 'Husan', is ready for a worldwide release.
This is one of the most eagerly awaited dance records of 2003. The
remix package includes previously unreleased mixes that will sit
as well with the listeners of Radio One as they do with the pirates
of the Asian Underground.
Bhangra
Nights Vs. Husan is released on 5th May 2003.
