INTRODUCTION
Available
in Europe for the first time, fully remastered with an extra bonus
track, Desi Vibes incorporates musical influences ranging from The
Beatles to Talvin Singh and Ravi Shankar.
It
all began with an exploratory trip to India in 1998. Inspired by
a treasured collection of original Hindi film soundtracks sourced
in Chandni Chowk, New Delhi, DJ Cavo immersed himself in the Grand
Bollywood Sound. He soon combined these influences with his own
New York street-wise ideas and a new sound was fused - underground
and urban, filled with infectious dance grooves and mellow chilled
vibes.
Originally
released in the summer of 1999, Dum Dum Project's first studio album
'Desi Vibes' became an instant underground hit in the US hip urban
centres, receiving airplay on influential stations on the East and
West Coast. Considered a standard in US down tempo and leftfield
circles, the release soon began to make its impression on the worldwide
DJ scene.
DJ
Pathaan of London's club night Stoned Asia championed the track
'Air India' from 'Desi Vibes' and in the summer of 1999, the track
became an Ibiza favourite.
With
their second album release Export Quality (X-Squared), Dum Dum project
made and impact on the Urban UK scene. After the electrifying performance
of their hit Hey Diwani, Hey Diwana on BBC's 2002 Mega Malai night,
Dum Dum Project became a favourite with BBC Radio 1's Bobby Friction
and Nihal, scoring several Number 1's on the Urban Charts.
'Desi
Vibes' is re-released on 9 March 2004.
