by Satish Gupta, opened by actress Meera Syal. The launch of the
new venue saw a number of well known faces including Deepak Verma
fom Eastenders, popstar Raghav, Mira Kaushik of Asian Dance Akademi,

& Vindi Banga, Bansari & Rajesh Shah and Baroness Usha Parashar.
Meera read selected poems from artist Satish Gupta's most recent

recital.
A proportion
of the proceeds from the sale of these artworks went towards an
Art Fellowship created jointly between The Courtauld Institute and
Tamarai. The purpose of this Art Fellowship is to offer a short-term
residency for one British and Indian artist to visit each other's
countries on respective years.
ABOUT
SATISH GUPTA
One
of most critically acclaimed Indian artists, Satish Gupta is one
of India's 'midnight children' born in 1947. In this exhibition,
he revisits the lotus flower that appears in various manifestations
in his creative oeuvre transcending from figuration to spirituality.
There is much research, study and thinking that precedes all his
creations in a fine blend of material, compositions and textures
that illustrate his skills and reflect his deep engagement with
philosophy, mysticism, cosmic consciousness and Zen influence.
Satish's
creative genre extends to include poetry writing and he has several
books to his credit including "The Broken Wave", inspired
by Zen, 'Vibrations', based on hymns from the Rig-Veda, "The
Eyes of the Thar", a large coffee table book and 'La Lluna
Fugissera', a book of haiku poems translated into Catalan.
