Like all great movie divas, Madame keeps us waiting. Her two doting maids are Hijra sisters; hermaphrodites, lady boys….female souls trapped in their male bodies.

It is the Golden Age of Indian Cinema, 1961. While Madame is away the maids indulge in secret nightly rituals. But the games take a more sinister turn as the sisters become consumed by their own dark fantasies.

Naach Theatre Company plunge us into Genet's story of power, jealousy and desire in this groundbreaking reworking of the modern classic. The Maids is part of a new season of work in the Lyric Studio entitled the mix, a series of shows, readings and works in progress, providing a platform for a range of new voices in British Theatre.

Naach Theatre Company (meaning 'the dance' in Hindi) seek to embrace their Asian identities yet move beyond established notions of ethnicity. Nadia Fall and Rachana Jadhav established Naach Theatre Company in order to create raw theatre, and experiment with the merging of drama and multimedia disciplines. The company's most recent production was 'Miss Julie' which enjoyed a critically acclaimed runs across four London venues.
