Panjabi wins Emmy Award |
British
Asian actresses, Archie Panjabi, last night won the Emmy Award for
Outstanding Supporting Actress for her role in CBS TV drama 'The Good
Wife'. Panjabi, who found fame in British hit films 'East is East'
and 'Bend It Like Beckham', won an Emmy for her role as a law firm's
in-house private investigator in the hit show. The 38-year-old triumphed
over fellow 'The Good Wife' actress Christine Baranski and 'Mad Men's'
Elisabeth Moss.

Six
years after its theatrical release, controversial British Asian gangster
film 'Triads, Yardies and Onion Bhajees' will finally get released
on DVD on 20th April 2010. On its original release in 2004, Triads,
Yardies and Onion Bhajees was the first entirely shot on a camcorder
on a budget of less than £1000. The film is directed by Sarjit
Bains and stars Manish Patel as the hitman ‘Singh’ who
is on a mission to track down six million dollars stolen from London’s
Heathrow Airport.

business mogul Anil Ambani's company Reliance should buy British television
channel ITV. This would fulfill Ambani’s dream to be a global media
baron and deliver Indians in Britain the “presence” they have long
craved. The fact that Rupert Murdoch’s Sky TV has been forced by UK
regulator Ofcom to divest part of its 17.9% in ITV leaves the field
clear for Reliance.

agree that the BBC should close its digital radio station BBC Asian
Network. The station has been losing listeners and has cost far too
much. The Asian market is already well served with a commercial radio
and TV stations and print & online media publishers will also
be relieved when the BBC no longer distorts markets.

the key attitudes of the UK's one million strong Indian community
to the Hindi film industry. It showed that 76% of the UK's Indian
community have watched Bollywood films at some time.

This
15-hour digitally re-mastered, abridged version of 'Mahabharat', the
epic Indian television series (which originally ran for over 60 hours),
is available in a five-disc digi-pack that includes an eight-page
booklet containing a glossary of the many characters and an overview
by Professor Fitzgerald of the University of Tennessee. The series
originally aired in the UK on BBC TV from 1991-1993 and proved a major
hit with both Indian and non-Indian audiences.
