LABOUR
LAUNCHES SIX ELECTION PLEDGES
(11 February 2005)
The
Prime Minister today unveiled Labour's six pledges that ensure a
better life for you and your family. Tony Blair made the announcements
around the country as he made his way to Labour's spring conference
in Gateshead. Underlining how the economy will be the bedrock of
the coming campaign, the Prime Minister and the Chancellor Gordon
brown launched the economic pledge first with a signing ceremony
in London.
The
Prime Minister sees the pledges as a key part of the campaign, where
he wants to inspire and enthuse the public to get involved in the
campaign. He also believes they are important in addressing the
issue of trust in politics.
Alan
Millburn, Labour's Election Co-ordinator said " These pledges
are being designed with hardworking families in mind. They are focused
on maintaining a stable economy and investing in health, education
and tackling issues which matter to the people of Britain. Labour
delivered on every one of our pledges in the first term, are doing
so in our second term and are committed to delivering for hard working
families in the third term."
The
new pledges are:
·
Your family better off: low inflation, and mortgages as low as
possible, more people off benefit and into work, a rising minimum
wage and more help for first time buyers.
·
Your child achieving more: modern schools for all, strong discipline,
and a guaranteed place in training, sixth-form or an apprenticeship.
·
Your children with the best start: more choice over parental leave
for mums and dads, more childcare for under-5s, and after school
care for over-5s.
·
Your family treated better and faster: no-one waiting more than
18 weeks, guaranteed, for hospital treatment - with choice over
where and when - in an NHS free at the point of need.
·
Your community safer: local policing teams, cracking down on graffiti,
gangs and drug-dealers.
·
Your country's borders protected: ID cards and strict controls
that work to combat asylum abuse and illegal immigration.
