community leaders and MPs, the diplomatic community, heads of leading
business and financial houses and representatives of British and
Asian media groups. The

cultural Asian talent but also to establish an event that would
attract the attention of the media and community heads towards a
worthy cause.
This
year the recipients included Dr. Avtar Lit of Sunrise Radio for
reaching communities, Sonu Lalvani of 'Yatra' for reaching families,
Maureen Lines for service of humanity in recognition of her work
in northern Pakistan, Hardeep Singh Kohli for the performing arts,

the foundation was the rehabilitation of under privileged children
and in this respect the need of the hour were the thousands of children
rendered homeless and without their families after the earthquake
in Pakistan. He outlined a proposal in which port-a-cabins would
be used to set up houses and school facilities for these children.
Also
speaking on the occasion were Labour MP Mohammed Sarwar, the Deputy
High Commissioners of Pakistan and Sri Lanka, the Indian Minister
of Culture and Director of The Nehru Centre Dr. Atul Khari, Sir
